BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's soccer team will attempt to break the program record for conference wins in a season as they take on Atlantic Sun opponents Lipscomb and Belmont this week. The Owls take on Lipscomb Thursday, at 8pm, in the second game of a double header with the women's soccer team. The team will play Belmont on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
FAU (7-6-1, 4-1 A-Sun) leads the conference in goals, assists and points and ranks fifth in the nation in goals per game. Kristoffer Aarskog, this week's Atlantic Sun Offensive Player-of-the-Week, set a career high in points (26) after scoring the game-winning goal in the 3-2 win against Campbell. He leads the conference in goals (11) and points and is ranked seventh and ninth in the nation in goals and points per game. Aarskog has recorded five game-winning goals on the season and has been awarded Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors three times this season.
Defensively, the Owls recorded their first shutout of the season in a 6-0 win against Gardner-Webb. Anders Granstad, this week's Atlantic Sun Defensive Player-of-the-Week, made 11 saves in two games last week and has recorded five saves or more in nine of the team's 14 games.
Lipscomb (3-11, 1-4 A-Sun) begins its first season in the A-Sun and will play Florida Atlantic for the first time in program history. The Bisons are led by Denis Kitzinger.
The Owls all-time series record is 1-1 against Belmont. The Bruins (6-5, 3-2 A-Sun) will play Central Florida before traveling to play the Owls. Last season, Belmont defeated FAU 2-1 with Josh Garbee assisting Bjorn Totland for the team's lone goal. Fernando Castellanos leads the Bruins with seven goals and three assists.
Florida Atlantic travels to Georgia to take on Mercer on Friday, October 31. The Owls return home to take on Howard on Sunday, November 9, at 1 pm. Individual ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for seniors/children. For ticket information, call 866-FAU-OWLS.
