MACON, GA - Florida Atlantic University defeated Troy State University, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in Macon, GA. The quarterfinal victory advances FAU (17-4) to the semifinals where they will take on Georgia State.
FAU made easy work of a Troy State team that featured just five players. The Trojans would default a doubles and singles match as a result. FAU took advantage in doubles when Doug Devriendt and Cristian Paiz defeated Pablo Martinez and Rolando Vargas, 8-6, at no. 1 to give FAU a 1-0 lead.
With a victory by default at no. 6 singles, FAU led 2-0. Sandro Spotti, playing at no. 3, defeated Joel Scalzi 6-3, 6-0 to put the Owls in front 3-0 before Devriendt won in straight sets at no. 1 over Martinez to clinch the match for the Owls.
