ORLANDO, FL - For the first time in nearly two years, Florida Atlantic University lost an Atlantic Sun Conference match as the no. 49 Owls were defeated by no. 70 Central Florida, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in Orlando. The loss snaps FAU's six-match winning streak and drops the team to 15-4 on the year and 3-1 in the A-Sun.
FAU took a 1-0 lead by claiming two victories in doubles. Sandro Spotti and Andre Buzzoni teamed at no. 2 to defeat UCF's Augusto Sanabria and Gabriel Strangberg 8-3 while F.J. Schofield and Martin Jirak got by Simon Jaeger and Johan Westin, 8-4, at no. 3.
UCF battled back in singles by winning four of the first five matches to clinch the victory. The lone winner for FAU was Martin Jirak, who defeated Sanabria 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 at no. 3.
The loss snapped FAU's 12-match winning streak against A-Sun teams that went back to the 2000 A-Sun Tournament. Florida Atlantic closes out its regular season April 13 against Bethune-Cookman in Boca Raton.
