Men's Tennis Wins Crucial A-Sun Match

BOCA RATON, FL - In a battle of undefeated Atlantic Sun Conference teams, Florida Atlantic University defeated visiting Georgia State University, 4-3, Saturday at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. With the victory, FAU moves to 13-3 on the year and 3-0 in A-Sun play. FAU entered the match no. 48 in the nation while GSU was no. 59.
In doubles, the teams split the first two matches before Doug Devriendt and Cristian Paiz defeated GSU's Ormaza Matias and Miha Lisac, 8-5, at no. 2 to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
In singles, Georgia State (10-5, 3-1 A-Sun) won three of the first five matches to take a 3-2 lead. That's when Andre Buzzoni, at no. 4, defeated Albano Franco 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to tie the match at 3-3. The match came down to no. 1 where Devriendt and Pablo Perez-Gras were battling into the third set. At 3-3, Perez-Gras defaulted due to cramping to give Devriendt and FAU the 4-3 victory.
FAU has now won 12 straight matches against A-Sun competition going back to last year and including last year's A-Sun Tournament. The Owls next host Army March 26 at 2:00pm.
