TAMPA, FL - Florida Atlantic University's bid for its first-ever USF "Speedline" Invitational championship fell short Sunday in a 4-0 loss to Stanford. FAU entered the game ranked no. 13 while Stanford was no. 3.
The Cardinal took a 1-0 lead in the first on a one-out solo homer by Jessica Mendoza. Mendoza would hit a two-run blast in the third inning to give Stanford a 3-0 lead. The Cardinal added one more run in the third to account for the 4-0 win.
Nikki Myers took the loss (16-3). She allowed all four runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out six.
Stanford's Tori Nyberg went the distance, allowing eight hits while striking out four. FAU left nine runners on base.
