A real nice ending to a good week for us. We now have won 10 in a row and are playing very well.
Mike Cox had a great week. Four home runs in the last two games. He has also played well in the field as we have remained errorless for the last three games.
St. Patrick's Day was a warm one. We all wore green hats with shamrocks, and green socks and t shirts, while the Irish flag flew over the field. There were shamrocks on all the bases and a trail of shamrocks painted on the sidewalk led the fans to the stands. A lot of fuss for one day, but for some reason this has become a tradition here. We also only played Irish music. Some players found the Chieftans and The Irish Rovers to be less than exciting. We did throw in some Van Morrison and U2 in an effort to keep them happy.
Tuesday night we play Rutgers who took two out of three from Miami this weekend. I'm glad we had the two close games Wednesday and Friday. Our games with Rutgers are always exciting and close. They are ranked in the top 30 this year, so it's a good chance for us to make an impression on the poll voters.
We played 22 players yesterday. I don't know if it's a school record or not, but it's a lot of guys for one game. As I wrote last week, the conversations with players about playing time continue. We have played a lot of different people because we believe there is a good amount of talent on this team. We are trying to keep everyone fresh and involved so that when called upon to play, our guys are as well prepared as possible. One result of this is that we now feel that we have a pretty good handle on who our main guys are going to be, and who are the next best options. This can't be done in the Fall because we don't get to play outside competition.
So a big week ahead. Rutgers and Rider University, and then off to Samford for a big conference weekend. The Bulldogs took two out of three from Stetson this weekend, so we have our work cut out for us. KC
