NEW ORLEANS, LA - The no. 44 Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team dropped a close match at no. 35 Tulane University Sunday afternoon in New Orleans, LA. The Owls fell 4-3 to the Green Wave to fall to 8-2 on the season.
Tulane took the doubles point before FAU began to rally in singles play. After a Green Wave victory at no. 2 gave Tulane a 2-0 lead, FAU's Cristian Paiz defeated Hannu Piiroinen 6-4, 6-2 at no. 4 while Ernest Diaz picked up a victory at no. 6 to draw the Owls even at 2-2.
Victories by Tulane at no. 1 and no. 3 clinched the team victory before FAU's F.J. Schofield won at no. 5 to give the Owls their third point. The victory for Schofield improves him to 9-0 on the year.
FAU next hosts Illinois State Monday at 2:00pm.
