Baseball Falls To Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, FL -
Florida Atlantic University fell to host Jacksonville University, 4-2, Friday night in Jacksonville, FL. JU broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with four runs to take game one of a three-game set between the Trans America Athletic Conference foes. With the loss, FAU drops to 24-15 on the season and 4-6 in TAAC play.
JU (22-10, 10-3 TAAC) grabbed the early lead with a two-run homer by Scott Biernacki in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until the top of the fourth when FAU scored twice to tie the game at 2-2. L.J. Biernbaum and Mike Valdes led off the inning with back-to-back walks before Shaen O'Connor hit a one-out double to score Biernbaum. Regan Samaniego followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Valdes with the tying run..
The game remained scoreless until the eighth when JU regained the lead for good. FAU's James Callahan relieved starter Danny Core with one out and runner on first and second. After a wild pitch allowed the runners to advance, JU's Phil Nover hit a two-run single to give the Dolphins a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Brook Hoover added another two-run single to give JU a 6-2 lead.
Core (4-6) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
The two teams conclude their series Saturday afternoon in a 1:00pm doubleheader.
