Florida Atlantic University split a doubleheader with Campbell University Thursday night in Buies Creek, NC. The Lady Owls (33-13, 2-2 Trans America Athletic Conference) defeated the Fighting Camels (25-17, 2-4 TAAC) 8-0 in the first game before dropping game two 1-0.
In the first game, Nicole Myers hit her team-leading 15th home run with a third inning solo shot. FAU took control of the game in the 2nd inning with four runs to take a 5-0 lead. The mercy rule ended the game after five innings. Myers went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in game one while Kristen Stanley, Annie Norton, and Michelle Shirah each added RBIs. Chris Sutcliffe (11-1) pitched her fourth shutout of the season, allowing six hits and striking out two.
In the second game, Campbell's Shannon O'Brien drove in the game's only run with a one-out triple in the bottom of the fifth. FAU's Callie Piper went 2-for-3 while Myers (16-9) took the complete game loss in allowing four hits and striking out 11.
The game one victory draws FAU head coach Joan Joyce two wins shy of 300 for her career. She currently stands at 298.
Florida Atlantic next plays at the UNC Tarheel Invitational beginning Saturday in Chapel Hill, NC.
