Softball Dops Pair at Tarheel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, NC -
Florida Atlantic University lost both of its games Saturday at the UNC Tarheel Invitational. The Lady Owls fell to Florida State 5-4 in eight innings before losing to host North Carolina 5-0. The losses drop FAU to 33-15 overall.
Against FSU, Florida Atlantic rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. All four runs scored with two outs as Heather Wright started the scoring with an RBI-single to make it 4-1. Ninya Ybarra followed with an RBI-double before Kim Nicosia drove in a run with a triple to make it 4-3. Michelle Shirah completed the comeback with a run-scoring single to tie the game at 4-4. FSU came back in the top of the eighth to score what turned out to be the game-winning run. In all, Ybarra went 3-for-4 against FSU.
Chris Sutcliffe (11-2) took the loss for FAU. She pitched all eight innings, allowing five runs, four of which were unearned, along with six hits. She struck out three.
In game two, Nicole Myers (16-10) took the loss as the Lady Owls were shut out for the eighth time this season. Myers allowed five runs in six innings of work and struck out six. Callie Piper had two of FAU's four hits.
Florida Atlantic concludes play at the Tarheel Invitational Sunday with a game against East Carolina at 10:00am.
