FAU Softball Sweeps Samford

BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic University's softball team swept a conference doubleheader against Samford University 5-2 and 7-0.
Lady Owls head coach Joan Joyce recorded her 300th career victory in the first game. Her career coaching record is now 301 wins and 151 losses. The victories improve FAU's record to 36-15 on the year and 4-2 in the Trans America Athletic Conference.
In the first game, the Bulldogs took and early 2-0 lead, but Lady Owl starter Chris Sutcliffe settled down to earn her 12th victory on the year. She struck out four batters and gave up eight hits.
Nicole Myers broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with her TAAC leading 16th home run of the year. Jaime Sawyer followed with a RBI single to make it 5-2. Kim Nicosia also added an RBI single.
In the second game, Myers threw her sixth career no-hitter to improve her record to 18-10 on the year. She struck out 13 batters. Nicosia hit a fifth inning two-run triple. Callie Piper went 2-for-3 with a 3-run double, in the bottom of the sixth. She had four RBIs in the game. Sawyer, Kristin Gonzalez, and Ginny Matthews each contributed two hits. The Lady Owls travel to Atlanta, GA to take on Georgia State on Wednesday April 18. They will be on the road all week playing six TAAC games, including games against Mercer University and Troy State.
