Softball Splits with Georgia State

ATLANTA, GA - Florida Atlantic University's softball team split a Trans America Athletic Conference doubleheader with Georgia State University, Wednesday night 6-4, and 7-0. The games place the Lady Owls record at 37-16 and 5-3 in the TAAC.
In the first game, Chris Sutcliffe suffered only her third loss of the year, dropping her record to 12-3. She pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and only three earned runs, while striking out five.
Diane Sanchez tied the game in the fourth innning with a RBI double to right field. Kristen Stanley then reached on a two-base error which scored Sanchez.
The Lady Panthers took the lead again in the fifth inning, but in the top of the sixth, Lady Owl second baseman Kristin Gonzalez hit a RBI single to drive in Michelle Shirah. Heather Wright followed with a sacrafice fly to tie the game for the second time, 4-4. The Lady Panthers took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.
In the second game, Lady Owl starting pitcher Nicole Myers, who was named TAAC Pitcher of the Week, pitched a complete game three-hitter with 14 strikeouts. She also belted her TAAC leading 17th home run of the season.
FAU put up a five-run second inning to ice the game away. Wright belted an RBi triple, then Gonzalez followed with an RBI double to left center. Lianna Pratt, who was 3-for-3 with a double, then smacked an RBI single to drive in Gonzalez. Ninya Ybarra followed with her fifth home run of the year to make it 5-0.
Myers added her home run in the top of the third, then in the top of the fifth, Catherine Cashion hit her third home run of the year, a solo shot to right field.
The Lady Owls play today against Mercer University in Macon, GA at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. They will conclude their road trip on Saturday against Troy State, in Troy, AL at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
