BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team improved to 27-15 and 7-6 in the Trans America Athletic Conference with an 8-3 victory over Troy State University.
FAU opened the scoring in the second. With runners on first and second, Mike Valdes hit a single to right scoring Bobby Spano. Shaen O'Connor followed with a run scoring ground out.
Troy State responded, but it was matched with two more FAU runs in the sixth when Rusty Brown, 1-for-3, hit a two-run single to left. Alex Fernandez was also 1-for-3 with a double.
Petersen Benjamin (4-3) started the game for FAU, pitched six complete and allowed six hits and two runs. Jim Cooney pitched an inning and two thirds and also allowed a run. Chris Pillsbury finished the game for FAU.
FAU will play host to Troy State in a scheduled doubleheader, 1 pm, Saturday.
