Florida Atlantic University opened the 2001 Trans America Athletic Conference season and the defense of their four TAAC championships with a 5-3 loss to Jacksonville State University. The team returned to the field to take the second of a scheduled double header 4-0. They upped their record to 32-12 on the year, and 1-1 in TAAC play.
Kristie Picon started the game for FAU, but was removed after three innings, six hits, and three runs. Picon took the loss for FAU, the Lady Owls first to JSU in eight games. Chris Sutcliffe pitched the remaining four innings. She allowed just four hits in her appearance.
Offensively, FAU was led by Nicole Myers, who was 2-for-2 with a triple, and Michelle Shirah, who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Myers captured the second game after a complete outing with 11 strikeouts. She improved to 16-8 . Offensively, they were led by Myers, with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Kristin Gonzalez executed a perfect squeeze bunt in the same inning.
