BOCA RATON - A game that was not on the original schedule saw a sophomore pitcher James Callahan pitch a game he will never forget, a Florida Atlantic University 7-6 victory over the University of Hartford, Thursday morning. It was the team's eighth come-from-behind victory this season.
James Callahan drew the start, just 12 hours after his team defeated Northeastern (6-4), Wednesday night and just four hours after his team left for its scheduled three-game series with Trans America Athletic Conference opponent Campbell University. Callahan, who did not pick up the decision, tallied seven strikeouts, one shy of his single season total for 1999.
Callahan pitched 8 2/3 innings before giving way to Tim McNab. McNab pitched the final out of the ninth to take the win. Despite allowing two hits, McNab halted Hartford's surge giving FAU the opportunity to score the final game winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Offensively, FAU was led by Mike Valdes, who was 3-for-5 with a home run. Regan Samaniego also hit a homer, his fourth of the season. Jason Sullivan hit his sixth double of the season.
Following the game FAU joined the rest of the team in North Carolina.
