FAU Drops Two at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, NC - Florida Atlantic University was swept Friday night by Campbell University in a Trans America Athletic Conference doubleheader in Buies Creek, NC. The losses drop FAU to 20-12 on the season and 1-4 in TAAC play.
In game one, Rusty Brown, Jason Sullivan, and Shaen O'Connor each had two-run homers but it was Campbell (16-7, 4-1 TAAC) that was able to battle back to take the victory in extra innings. FAU broke out with six runs in the top of the second inning, which included the blasts by Brown and Sullivan. The Owls led 7-3 into the bottom of the sixth before Campbell rallied with four runs to tie the game. Neither team scored in the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
The Owls looked poised to take a victory by scoring twice in the top of the 10th on O'Connor's two-run pinch-hit home run. However, the Camels responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning which was capped off by a two-run double by Michael Wineke.
Petersen Benjamin started for the Owls and allowed four runs on 13 hits in five innings. Chris Pillsbury (2-3) took the loss.
In game two, Campbell scored two runs in the first and four runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead into the third inning. FAU was only able to manage one run in the third and two runs in the seventh. Danny Core (4-4) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. The Owls committed four errors in the game.
The game concluded a stretch of seven games and 65 innings in six days for the Owls, who face Campbell Saturday at 1:00pm in the final game of the three-game set.
