In their second five-game match in two days, Florida Atlantic University (8-13, 5-3 A-Sun) fell to Georgia State University (20-6, 8-1 A-Sun) in a battle for second place in the conference. The Lady Owls won a marathon first game to 34 before falling in five, 34-32, 20-30, 23-30, 30-25, 12-15.

After taking a 29-23 lead in game one the Panthers' Randi Van Dan used agressive serving and a service ace to give GSU a 30-29 lead. The two teams tied it at 32 before Marja Valkeavuori (Riihimaki, Finland) and Gracie Heim each got a kill to bring the game to a close. Valkeavuori and Heim combined for 33 kills on the night.

Georgia State found a rhythm and shut down the FAU offense as they out hit them by posting a .250 and .343 average in the second and third game. Florida Atlantic had more kills than their opponent but also had twice as many errors in the two games.

FAU regained some composure and used three service aces by Danyielle Smith (Seminole, FL) in game four to take the match to a fifth game. The Lady Owls took an early 8-4 lead before Molly Sapp tied the game at nine. After trading points to12, Amanda Sapp took control of the match as she had a kill and two blocks to give Georgia State the win.

Michelle Landa (Delano, MN) stepped in for an injured Jeana Boyle and recorded a match-high 57 assists in her first complete match. Jessica Kahn (Apopka, FL) contributed 11 kills and six blocks in the loss.

FAU travels to Stetson on Thursday and then returns home to host Troy State University on Saturday to close out conference play.
