In just his second year as head coach, Brian Dooley has elevated FAU's women's soccer program higher than it has ever been in its 10-year history. Last year, the team had its best season ever in Trans America Athletic Conference play with a 4-4-1 record. That record will be eclipsed yet again in 2000. The team also advanced to its first TAAC Tournament in 1999.
This year, FAU has built off of last season's success by already securing its best overall record since moving to Division I in 1993.
"Last year our main focus was to make the TAAC Tournament," said Dooley. "This year, the expectations are higher, and as a result, our goals have changed. Making the TAAC Tournament is not enough for this team. We want to put ourselves in a situation where we can advance and have a chance to win the championship."
Records set this season demonstrate just how far the women's soccer program has come in Dooley's short tenure. In addition to the TAAC-win record, the team has scored more goals than in any year in its history. FAU has also set a team record for shutouts in a season.
On the individual side, sophomore transfer Lisanne Peart broke teammate Melissa Bobby's record for goals in a season barely halfway through the season. Peart also led in total points scored in a season with 40. Teammate Molly Keating, broke the single season shutout record with eight shutouts this year.
The Lady Owls (14-6) concluded their season in the finals of the TAAC Championship with a one goal loss to Jacksonville University.
