Florida Atlantic University's men's basketball scheduled has been released for the upcoming 2000-01 season. Trips to Florida and San Diego State, a home game against the University of Miami, as well as two tournaments highlight the Owls non-conference schedule.
FAU will play 11 non-conference games, in all. In addition to the Florida, San Diego State, and Miami games, FAU will travel to Virginia Commonwealth, host Hofstra and Birmingham Southern, and play at the Florida International Thanksgiving Shootout and the Puerto Rico Holiday Shootout.
At the FIU Tournament, FAU will be part of a field that includes Canisius, Wisconsin- Milwaukee, and FIU. The Puerto Rico Holiday Shootout includes American (PR), Clemson, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Northern Iowa, Washington, and Youngstown State. FAU will face Clemson in the first round.
Eleven of FAU's first 12 games will be against non-conference foes, with FAU's December 2 contest at Trans America Athletic Conference rival Troy State the only exception. The Owls' final 17 games will complete the TAAC schedule.
Overall, FAU's non-conference schedule includes teams from the Big East, SEC, Pac-10, Conference-USA, Sun Belt, and Mountain West Conference.
"It's a competitive schedule," said FAU head coach Sidney Green. "We're playing some quality non-conference teams, three of which made it to the NCAA Tournament last year."
FAU will open its season against Miami at home on November 18 at 7:45 pm.
