Women's Soccer 2000-2004
Rhonda Jones came to FAU by way of Scotland. She brought with her the innate ability to lead her team and challenge each of her teammates to play at a higher level. As a freshman she guided the squad to a 14-6 record, powering one of the few winning seasons for a program that began in 1991 and had struggled to find its personality. Jones became that personality, leading the squad to the 2000 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, where she earned All-Tournament honors. She repeated the feat in 2001,adding NCSAA All-Region third team accolades as well as Soccer Buzz All-Region/All-America third team recognition. The team continued to improve, with Jones as its driving force. In 2002, she captured A-Sun First-Team All-Conference honors and repeated her Soccer Buzz All-Region and All-America accomplishments. As a senior, Jones was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, first team All-Conference and Atlantic Sun All-Academic. She concluded a stellar four-year career that saw the women's soccer team transformed into a league contender and champion. Jones' name is etched in nearly every FAU statistical category. She led as both a soccer player and a student and in 2004 was named FAU Female Student Athlete of the Year. She extended her soccer career in the Scottish Football Association. Jones represented Scotland in the Ayr United LFC, was a Player of the Year and a European Cup Qualifier. She also played on the USA B National Team versus Australia.
