Football 2001-2004
Chris Laskowski exemplifies the student athletes who built FAU football. The Melbourne, Florida native was one of more than 164 students who tried out for the 2000 football team. Laskowski earned a spot on the squad and worked with the 25 players on scholarship and more than 80 others who held the desire of playing college football. He took the field as an integral part of special teams play in 2001, and by 2002, his sophomore season, he was not only a scholarship player but a defensive leader who earned the team's MVP honor. Year three saw the squad advance to the Division I-AA semifinal game and saw Laskowski share the team MVP honor with quarterback Jared Allen. Laskowski concluded his fourth and final season as one of just nine players who played in every game during the program's first four seasons. His name is etched in the all-time defensive record book. Laskowski guided FAU's football program into the initial stages of its move to the highest level of play, doing so as a student who earned high recognition for his academic accomplishments. At the conclusion of 2004-05, Laskowski was named the Athletic Department's Male Student Athlete of the Year.
