Coach Harry Hackett is entering his 10th year coaching women and men vaulters in South Florida.
The 2006 season was a successful campaign for the Owls as sophomore Myra Remaly vaulted to 3rd place at the Indoor Sun Belt Championships and 5th place at the Outdoor Sun Belt Championships.
In 2006, Coach Hackett also continued his volunteer coaching for Boca Raton Community High School and FAU High School, coaching vaulter Megan Miller to her second Florida High School State Championship Title. Megan, a High School All-American vaulting for FAU set the school record attaining a personal best of 12[apos] 6[quote]. Megan will be vaulting at the Air Force Academy this year. Also in 2006, rising vault star Kevin Coffey, a sophomore at Boca Raton High School won the county and district championships and placed 2nd at Regionals and 6th at the Florida High School State Championships, with a PR of 13[apos] 6[quote] in his first year vaulting.
In 2005, junior Megan Miller won her first Florida High School State Championship - Pole Vault Title (12[apos]). Miller took three strong attempts at the Florida State Championships Record of 12[apos] 9[quote], just barely missing setting a new state record.
In 2004, sophomore Miller first vaulted under the guidance of Coach Hackett, with an in coming personal best of 9[apos] and finishing the season with a new PR of 11[apos] and a 3rd place finish at the Florida State Championships. Miller was joined at the State Championships by junior Tracy Coffey who placed 9th and attained a PR of 10[apos] 6[quote]. Ms. Coffey is now vaulting for the University of Miami.
From 1998 to 2003, Coach Hackett guided six State Championship qualifiers, including Lynn Sheppard who placed 5th at the State Championships in 2000 and attained a PR of 14[apos] 4[quote] his senior year. Sheppard is now coaching high school vaulters in San Diego, CA.
Coach Hackett competes in Masters Track & Field Competitions and regularly attends the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, NV.
Coach Hackett has worked for Oce` North America for the past 15 years. He married the former Lesley Swan in 1983, and they have two children - Ryann (23) and Sean (20).
