After concluding her playing career with the Florida Atlantic softball team in 2024, Katelynn de Leon will remain with the Owls as an assistant coach, as announced by Head Coach Jordan Clark on Aug. 26, 2024.
Her seamless transition to coaching for the 2025 season saw her be a part of the AAC Coaching Staff of the Year on the way to back-to-back AAC regular season championships as well as 45 wins and an NCAA Regional victory, both not achieved by the program since 2016.
With de Leon working with catchers, junior Chloe Yeatts earned All-AAC First Team as she set a single-season program record in RBI with 54 and led the team in home runs with eight. Owl catchers were a part of a no hitter as well as a perfect game in 2025, the latter occurring for the first time since 2002.
Â
De Leon made 35 starts as a catcher for FAU and earned a spot on the All-AAC First Team for an Owls team that won 41 games and the AAC regular season conference championship. With de Leon, Florida Atlantic made an appearance in the NCAA Regional for the first time since 2016.
Â
She also serves as the head coach for the Rock softball travel team in south Florida and most recently worked at TBT Sports Academy in Boca Raton.Â
Â
A Pembroke Pines native, de Leon attended Pembroke Pines Charter High School where she was a state champion. She then spent the first four years of her collegiate career playing at Troy University.
