Joined the staff in January of 2020 with the knowledge of head coach Willie Taggart culture and system after serving on Taggart’s previous staff in multiple roles
Comes to FAU with 13 years of coaching experience on both sides of the ball and special teams

At FSU

Served as a special teams quality control coach (2018-19)
Member of the staff that participated in the 2019 Sun Bowl
Helped guide the 2019 kickoff return team to a No. 12 national rank
In 2018 DJ Matthews was ranked No. 6 nationally in punt returns

At WKU

Served as the 2017 special teams quality control coach
On staff for the Cure Bowl
Helped guide Jake Collins and Ben Reeder to All-C-USA honorable mention honors

At USF

Worked with the Bulls from 2013-17
Served as the team’s interim special teams coordinator for the 2016 Birmingham Bowl
Was a special teams analyst from 2015-16 and an Interim assistant running backs coach in the Spring of 2015
The 2014 season saw Willis focus on both the special teams and the offense as an analyst adding the special teams duties after his first season, 2013, when his attention was with the offense
While at USF he was a part of staffs for the Miami Beach Bowl (2015) and the Birmingham Bowl (2016) the Bulls were ranked No. 6 in 2015 for kickoff return
Helped guide Rodney Adams, D’Ernest Johnson, and Mattias to All AAC Honors on Special Teams

At New Mexico State

Served as a graduate assistant defensive backs coach for the 2012 season
Helped guide Jeremy Harris and Davis Cazares to All WAC Honors

At Bethel

Gained his first fulltime position and worked as a defensive backs coach, first as a graduate assistant with the safeties and special teams in 2010 and then as an assistant coach with both the defensive backs and special teams in 2011
Part of a staff that were the Mid-South West Division Champs and made a NAIA playoff appearance in 2011
Helped guide Derrick Williams and Darian Jones to All Mid-South honors

At WKU

Served as a quality control/student assistant from 2007-09 where he assisted the special teams coordinator
