Ricky Santiago returned to FAU, his alma mater, in 2023 and served as the Owls hitting and infielders coach. Under Santiago's guidance, the Owls' offense averaged over seven runs a game. Nolan Schanuel was named Conference USA Player of the Year after leading the nation in batting average, on base percentage, and walks. Third baseman Jackson Ross was named to the First Team All-C-USA after a 14 HR, 58 RBI season.Â
As a team, the Owls improved from 2022 in several offensive categories including hits per game, total bases, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.Â
Prior to FAU, Santiago served as an assistant at Lander University since October of 2018.Â
Santiago worked at Nova Southeastern from 2017-18, helping lead the Sharks to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Nova Southeastern led the nation in home runs in 2017, setting a program record with 97 long balls.
Santiago appeared in 209 games for the Owls from 2012-15. He launched 20 home runs and drove in 122 runs. The native of Pembroke Pines, Fla. was an All-American in 2015.
