BOCA RATON, FL -
Shelley Binegar has been named Florida Atlantic University's Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Operations. Binegar will work in conjunction with Dick Berg, FAU's Director of Ticket Sales, toward achieving the University's aspirations for sold out football games, announced FAU's Athletics Director Craig Angelos.
The coordinated efforts towards ticket sales and game entertainment centers around FAU's first season of NCAA Division I-A play and a NCAA mandated average attendance clause of 15,000 to continue to compete at the I-A level.
Binegar came to FAU following a stint at Ohio University where she was the director of ticket operations. While at OU she oversaw game-day ticket operations for football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball as well as the supervision of a staff of 28 part-time and student workers and duties that included marketing and promotions efforts that involved corporate and group sales for the athletic department.
During the extensive renovation of Peden Stadium in 2001, Binegar coordinated the re-seating of all season ticket holders and the numbering of 24,000 seats. She also assisted with the development of a preferential seating plan that led to higher customer satisfaction and increased revenues for the department. Binegar, an Athens native, returned to Ohio after spending a year as a ticket office assistant at the University of Wisconsin athletic ticket office. While earning her master's degree in sports administration from Ohio in 1999, Binegar was the graduate assistant for the Bobcats' associate athletics director for external affairs. In addition to creating a policy and procedures manual, she assisted with ticket operations and handled promotional efforts in the community.
Binegar also served an internship for the ticket director at the University of Maryland and worked as an assistant to Ohio's associate athletic director for two summers in preparation for her professional career. A 1998 graduate of Bowling Green State University, she earned a bachelor's degree in sport management with a minor in marketing.
