Florida Atlantic Overpowers ULM for Third Consecutive Victory
9/27/2026 12:27:00 AM | Football
MONROE, La. – With another stellar offensive showing by Florida Atlantic football in the books, the Owls (3-1) achieved their first three-game winning streak since 2020 and first non-conference road win since 2019 with a 45-17 victory over ULM on Saturday night.
The "Owl Raid" offense played complementary football against the Warhawks (0-4), balancing a 333-yard performance through the air with 234 rushing yards, the most recorded under Zach Kittley as Hagerty Family Head Football Coach. Florida Atlantic was mistake-free once again, marking the first time in program history that the team has gone three consecutive games without committing a turnover.
Given an additional boost by the return game, fifth-year WR Easton Messer took a punt 73 yards to the house, tied for the second longest punt return in program history and first return touchdown since 2023.
THE BEGINNING
It was the Owls who struck first midway through the first quarter on a 12-play drive that culminated in graduate TE AJ Johnson taking a direct snap eight yards into the end zone on a fourth down.
ULM tied it up on the next possession, but early in the second quarter Florida Atlantic drove 93 yards and recaptured the lead on a deep 26-yard shot from graduate QB Caden Veltkamp to fifth-year WR Dominique Henry, putting the Owls up 14-7.
THE TURNING POINT
The play of the night was made soon after, when a ULM punt bounced towards Messer. The program's all-time leader in return average moved towards the sideline and cut back towards the field, breaking several tackles in the process, for the 73-yard touchdown.
A pair of goal-line scores from sophomore RB Ethan Ervin and fifth-year Leonard Farrow grew the Owls' advantage to 35-17 entering halftime.
THE FINISH
Veltkamp and Henry connected once again, with the latter being found wide open in the end zone for a 36-yard score. Graduate K Collin Rogers converted a 29-yard field goal following a 14-play drive to finish the night.
Florida Atlantic's defense successfully shut down the Warhawks offense from scoring, surrendering zero points in the second half for the first time of the season.
