MONROE, La. — Florida Atlantic looks to start a football season 3-1 for the first time since 2020 when the Owls hit the road for a match-up with former conference foe Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night in Monroe, La.
The 10th all-time meeting between FAU and ULM kicks off at 8 p.m. ET live on the Florida Atlantic Sports Network (FOX Sports 640 locally) and nationally on ESPN+.
Florida Atlantic (2-1, 1-0) has won two straight games, beating Navy 38-30 and holding off FIU 16-10 last Saturday in the annual Shula Bowl, while the Warhawks (0-3) enter Saturday night's matchup at FMOL Health | St. Francis Stadium looking for their first victory.
The former Sun Belt rivals are meeting for the first time since 2012 and ULM leads the series 7-2, but the Owls have won two of the four games played in Monroe. The Owls won 21-19 in 2006 behind QB Sean Clayton's efficient 12-of-18 passing for 164 yards and a TD. The 2008 thriller in Monroe saw Rusty Smith throw a touchdown with 22 seconds left, leading the Owls to a 29-28 victory.
FAU enter Saturday's game plus-3 in turnover margin, having generated at least one takeaway in each game this season, including three first-quarter interceptions of FIU last Saturday. After going the entirety of the 2025 season with just three interceptions as a team, FAU has five through three games in 2026 with two from Bo Simpson-Nealy.
On the offensive side, the Owls have protected the football and have gone back-to-back games without committing a turnover for the first time since 2022. Graduate QB Caden Veltkamp leads the nation in completions per game (28.33) while fifth-year WR Easton Messer is currently No. 1 among all active FBS players in career receptions (224).
