BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time in 2026, the Florida Atlantic football team will travel by plane. The destination is to Louisiana where the 2-1 Owls will face ULM. Kickoff on Saturday against the 0-3 Warhawks is set for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
In the previous week's 16-10 Shula Bowl XXIV victory against FIU, it was the Owls' defense that got the job done with their least amount of points allowed to an FBS opponent since November of 2022. Defensive Coordinator Brett Dewhurst's unit has intercepted five passes in three games, already surpassing the 2025 total. Three came in the first quarter alone against the Panthers. Senior DB Chris Tooley III was selected as honorable mention by the American Conference after recording five tackles with one for a loss, an interception and a forced fumble.
On the offensive side, the Owls have protected the football and have gone back-to-back games without committing a turnover, the first such occurrence since Oct. 29 and Nov. 12, 2022. Graduate QB Caden Veltkamp continues his command of the offense, leading the nation in completions per game (28.33) while fifth-year WR Easton Messer is currently No. 1 among all active FBS players in career receptions (224).
Special teams remains special for Florida Atlantic. Graduate K Collin Rogers was responsible for 10 points in the most recent win, while junior P Reed Chandley was named to the Ray Guy Award's weekly Ray's 8 in part for a punt downed at the opposing 1-yard line with less than two minutes remaining, allowing for a final defensive stand by the Owls as time expired.
