BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic football's senior DB and Shula Bowl XXIV MVP Chris Tooley III has been recognized by the American Conference as a weekly honorable mention recipient, announced by the league office on Monday.
Tooley III, who has spent all four seasons of his collegiate career in Paradise, helped the Owls reclaim the Shula Bowl trophy in a 16-10 victory over FIU, the lowest scoring game and FAU's tightest margin of victory in the all-time series against the Panthers.
Among three FAU interceptions in the first quarter, it was Tooley III's 42-yard return off his takeaway that set up the Owls' only touchdown of the night. He also added five tackles, including one for a loss, and forced a fumble.
This marks the second consecutive week that a player from the 2-1 Florida Atlantic football team was recognized by the American. Graduate QB Caden Veltkamp previously won the conference's Offensive Player of the Week following the Owls' 38-30 victory over RV Navy.
Florida Atlantic will look to win its third straight game on Saturday with a matchup against ULM. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
