BOCA RATON, Fla. – A career performance from
Erin Rodgers powered the Florida Atlantic women's basketball team to a 68-63 win, completing the season sweep over the UAB Blazers on Saturday at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
The Owls improve to 10-13 on the season and 4-7 in American play, while UAB drops to 9-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vivian Onugha got the Owls on the board first, 2-0. After battling through a 6-4 lead,
Destyne Jackson hit the Owls' first 3-pointer of the day, sparking a 9-2 run as the Owls held a nine-point lead, 15-6, to close out the first.
The Owls and Blazers battled back and forth to open the second. The Blazers cut the Owls' lead to seven, 22-15. However, Rodgers scored back-to-back buckets on a layup and her first 3-pointer of the day to extend the Owls' lead to 12, 27-15, at the second quarter media break.
Jess Moors connected on back-to-back scores of her own for FAU, including her first three of the day to extend the Owls' lead to 13, 33-20, with 55 seconds to play in the half. However, the Blazers scored four unanswered points to close out the half, making it a nine-point FAU lead at the halftime break, 33-24.
Florida Atlantic opened the second half with another Rodgers 3-pointer, which sparked a 6-0 run to push the Owls' lead to its largest of the day at 16, 40-24, at the 8:32-minute mark. The Owls maintained their 16-point advantage through the third-quarter media timeout, 46-30. The Blazers scored six unanswered points out of the break to cut the Owls' lead to 10, 46-36, with 3:32 remaining in the third. Rodgers knocked down her third 3-pointer of the day to push the Owls' lead back to 13, 49-36, however, the Blazers closed the quarter on a 9-4 run to make it an eight-point FAU lead, 53-45, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Another triple from Moors kept the Owls' advantage at seven, 62-55, with 4:28 to play. However, the Blazers slowly chipped away at the Owls' lead, cutting the lead to just one, 64-63, with 26 seconds to play. The Owls closed the contest with four unanswered to seal the 68-63 win.

NOTES AND TEAM STATS
- Saturday's win marked the first conference season sweep for FAU since the 2023-24 season when the Owls swept Charlotte.
- Rodgers and Onugha led the Owls offensively in the win.
- Rodgers finished with a career-best 25 points, marking the first time since the 2023-24 season that an Owl has recorded back-to-back 20-point performances.
- She shot 9-of-14 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-8 from the line, and added four boards against the Blazers.
- Onugha also finished in double-figures with 10 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 2-of-5 at the line, in addition to tying for a team-high seven boards.
- Haley Walker tied Onugha for a game-leading seven rebounds, and Moors tied for a game-best five assists in the win.
- FAU's fast start powered the Owls to the win as they outpaced the Blazers 15-6 in the first quarter of play.
- The Owls outscored the Blazers in the paint, 32-24, and in fast breaks and points off turnovers, 8-5.
