SAN ANTONIO – Behind freshman guard
Josiah Parker's fourth consecutive double-double, the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing skid and defeated UTSA by a score of 60-52 on Wednesday evening.
The Owls (15-12, 7-7) pulled away from the Roadrunners (5-21, 1-13) in the second half, outscoring them by 10 on the way to holding their opponent to a season-low point total.
In his second collegiate start, Parker finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season, fifth in six games, and fourth straight. Redshirt sophomore forward
Devin Williams nearly had a triple-double with eight points, 11 rebounds, and seven blocks.
FIRST HALF
Williams, entering the night ranked No. 4 in the nation in blocks per game, recorded three in the opening six minutes and added a fourth with six minutes remaining. Parker got scoring started with an and-one, but baskets were hard to find for both teams throughout the opening period.
The two teams battled through 11 lead changes and three ties with neither holding more than a four-point advantage. The duo of Parker and Williams was active on both ends of the floor, combining for 12 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Isaiah Elohim led the Owls with seven points.
A late bucket from the Roadrunners sent FAU into the locker room trailing 28-26.
SECOND HALF
On the first possession, Elohim connected on an and-one and converted the free throw to regain the lead.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Elohim and redshirt junior guard
Niccolo Moretti put the Owls up by seven, a lead that grew to double-digits thanks to a jumper in the paint from Elohim. Parker continued to attack the hoop, scoring 10 points on five-for-seven shooting while collecting seven boards.
Late Roadrunner baskets closed the gap to six, but it was not enough to overtake the Owls.
