BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic football returns from its bye week with a 4-1 record, holding a four-game win streak that is the program's longest since 2020, and 186 points, the most by the team through its first five games.
Non-conference play has concluded with the Owls finishing 3-1, the best mark in team history. Now, contests against American opponents continue with a road game at Army next up on Saturday, Oct. 17. Kickoff is at noon on CBS Sports Network.
The Owls boast the one of league's top passers in Caden Veltkamp, who leads the conference in completion percentage (73.1%) and completions per game (25.6). His top two targets, senior WR Kelby Valsin and fifth-year WR Easton Messer, are both members of the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. Valsin is on top of the American with 8.0 receptions per game (No. 3 nationally), 102.4 receiving yards per game (No. 10) and five touchdowns (No. 75), while Messer has collected 6.4 receptions per game (No. 19 nationally), 445 yards (No. 27) and three scores.
Florida Atlantic has protected the football while also taking it away from others at an exceptional rate, ranking No. 12 nationwide with a 1.0 turnover margin.
Defensively, the Owls have held opponents under 20 points in three consecutive games for the first time since 2020. During that streak, they have limited foes to three total second half points.
On special teams, Florida Atlantic has recorded three return touchdowns with two kick returns to go along with a punt return score. Fifth-year RB Leonard Farrow tied the FBS single-game record with two in one game, both occurring in the first quarter of the 66-10 victory over Texas Southern.
