Owls Open First Conference Road Trip at Memphis

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls begin their first conference road trip on Wednesday, Jan. 7, facing off against the Memphis Tigers for an 8 p.m. tip at Elma Roane Fieldhouse and on ESPN+.

A LOOK AT THE OWLS

Florida Atlantic enters Saturday's contest at 6-8 overall and 0-2 in American play. The Owls look to snap a two-game skid after falling against North Texas, 81-56, and Rice, 83-75, to open conference play.
As a team, the Owls currently rank in the top five in the American Conference in several categories, ranking second in the league in bench points per game (26.2), third in steals per game (9.9), fourth in 3-point attempts per game (22.4), and fifth in free throws made per game (13.0), free throw attempts per game (18.6), 3-pointers made per game (6.9), turnovers forced per game (18.2), and fewest fouls per game (18.1).
The Owls' offense is paced by Vivian Onugha and Destyne Jackson. Onugha leads the Owls with a team-best 9.3 points per game, while Jackson ranks second on the team, averaging 8.6 points per contest this season.
On the glass, the Owls are led by Haley Walker and Onugha. Walker has tallied a team-leading 7.1 rebounds per game, ranking 11th in the American, while Onugha ranks second on the team, collecting 5.7 boards per game.

Memphis enters Wednesday's midweek matchup at 6-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Tigers are on a two-game skid after dropping contests to Charlotte and East Carolina.
The Tigers are led offensively by Chae Harris, Daejah Richmond, and Tamya Smith. Harris boasts a team-best 13.4 points per game, while Richmond and Smith are also averaging double-figures for Memphis, tallying 11.2 and 10.3 points per game, respectively.
Richmond paces the Tigers in assists and steals, dishing out a team-best 2.7 assists per game and collecting 2.4 steals per contest.
On the glass, Smith leads the team with a team-high 5.2 rebounds per game. She also ranks first for the Tigers in blocks, recording 0.9 blocks per game this season.

SERIES HISTORY

Memphis holds a slight 2-1 lead in the all-time series. The Tigers won both games played in Memphis, however, the Owls won the last meeting between the two programs, earning a 69-62 win in Boca Raton.

LAST TIME OUT: VS. RICE

Florida Atlantic fell in a hard-fought 83-75 battle against the Rice Owls this past Saturday.
Four Owls registered double figures in the contest, led by Gewirtz's first 20-point performance.
Gewirtz led the Owls with a career-best 22 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Simmons finished second on the team with a season-high 15 points, scoring 5-of-11 from the field, 1-of-4 from 3-point range, and a perfect 4-of-4 at the line.
Walker posted her first career double-double, finishing with a team-best 10 rebounds and tallying 10 points, to go along with three assists and a steal.
Jess Moors rounded out the Owls' double-figure scorers with 11 points and added a team-best seven assists and two steals.
The FAU Owls' bench outscored Rice's reserves 29-10.
Florida Atlantic also held an advantage in transition, outscoring Rice 17-10 in fast break points.
