MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team lost a road outing against Memphis on Thursday evening by a score of 92-65.
Playing without their top two scorers, the Owls (14-8, 6-3) leaned on freshman guard Josiah Parker, who recorded his second collegiate double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. FAU quickly found itself in a manageable deficit before the Tigers (10-10, 5-3) pulled away in the second half.
FIRST HALF
The Owls struck first with sophomore guard Isaiah Elohim finding his way inside for the game's opening score. Florida Atlantic fell behind early, regaining a brief 16-15 lead with an Elohim triple.
Memphis responded with a run to go up by double-digits, slowed by back-to-back buckets from Parker and two consecutive three-pointers from redshirt freshman guard Amar Amkou. After a late 8-0 run, the Owls ended the half trailing 41-33, with Parker's 14 points and 10 rebounds leading the way.
SECOND HALF
Elohim opened the second half with a layup, and the Owls closed the gap to six once more with a steal from redshirt junior guard Niccolo Moretti, leading to a score on the other end. This was the closest Florida Atlantic came the rest of the way.
The Owls found much of their scoring in the final 20 minutes from the free throw line, making 18.
