BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls wrapped up non-conference play on Saturday, earning a straight-set sweep against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, 3-0, inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bethune-Cookman took the opening lead in the match and held the advantage until a 4-0 run gave the Owls their first lead of the day at 8-7. Following a 15-13 Florida Atlantic lead, the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to take the lead at 16-15. However, FAU answered back with three unanswered points of their own to retake the lead, 18-16, and force Bethune-Cookman to call a timeout. The Owls controlled the set the rest of the way, outscoring the Wildcats 7-2 to close out the first, 25-18.
After battling through an 11-11 stalemate to open set two, the Wildcats broke away to a four-point lead, 17-13, following a 6-2 run to spark a Florida Atlantic timeout. Bethune-Cookman held a 21-17 lead before the Owls rallied to score five unanswered points to retake the lead 22-21. The Wildcats retook the advantage at 23-22, but FAU closed the match on a 4-2 run to take the second 26-24 and take a two-set lead.
Following a 5-1 Florida Atlantic run to open the third, Bethune-Cookman responded with five unanswered points to take a 6-5 lead. The Wildcats' advantage was short-lived as the Owls answered back on a 7-1 run to take a five-point lead, 12-7, and force a Wildcat timeout. FAU extended its lead to nine, 18-9, as the Wildcats called their second and final timeout of the third. The Owls continued to outscore the Wildcats as they eventually closed out the set 25-14 to seal the three-set sweep.

STATS & NOTES
- Hart and Hartman led the Owls offensively. Hart hit .500 and posted a match-leading 17 kills, while Hartman hit a match-best .571 and recorded 13 kills.
- Emsley Venard led the Owls in assists, dishing out a match-high 20.
- Isabelle Northam was the Owls' digs leader, tallying a team-best 13 digs.
- Erin Morrissey led the team in blocks, recording a match-high three blocks in the win.
- As a team, the Owls dominated in every statistical category, leading the Wildcats in kills (47), hitting percentage (.347), assists (44), service aces (10), digs (41), and blocks (4).
UP NEXT
Florida Atlantic now prepares to open American Conference play next week, opening with a midweek matchup against the South Florida Bulls on Wednesday, Sept. 24. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at The Corral.
