Owls Shutout Creighton in Season Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men's soccer started its 2025 campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Creighton on Thursday night at the FAU Soccer Stadium. The Owls scored twice in the opening frame, added an insurance marker early in the second half, and relied on newcomer goalkeeper Alfred Mikkelsen to preserve the clean sheet.
It took just nine minutes for American Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Mamadou Diarra to open his 2025 account. Off a feed from Aboubacar Traore, Diarra's shot from well outside the box took a deflection off a Creighton defender and trickled past the Blue Jays' goalkeeper.
The Owls doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. Felipe Santos played a through ball into the box for Eli Conway, and the senior transfer ripped a left-footed strike to the short side into the top corner.
Diarra and Traore were involved again in the 65th minute, this time providing assists on a strike by Oliver Moller-Jensen. Traore's delivery into the box was headed on by Diarra into the path of Moller-Jensen, who finished the job.
The final 20 minutes turned chippy, but the Owls kept their discipline. Creighton, meanwhile, was issued seven yellow cards and one red.
In his FAU debut, Mikkelsen, a junior transfer from Tyler JC in Texas, made six saves in goal to record the clean sheet. Both teams attempted 13 shots. Creighton landed six on goal to four for the Owls.
