BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic volleyball was recognized for its success in the classroom, earning the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced by the AVCA on Monday.
"At FAU, we talk every day about being your best and winning the day," said Head Coach
Fernanda Nelson. "That means giving everything you have—on the court and in the classroom. I'm so proud of this team. They work hard, they care about each other, and they chase excellence in all they do. This award shows the heart and discipline they bring every single day."
The honor marks the third all-time for Florida Atlantic, having also earned the award in 2022 and 2023.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
2024 marked a huge year for the Owls, led by Head Coach
Fernanda Nelson in her 13th season. Florida Atlantic achieved its first conference championship berth since 2005 in its first AAC Tournament appearance. The Owls' impressive 2024 campaign resulted in multiple postseason honors, including
Victoria Hensley and
Katelynn Robine earning AAC All-Conference Second Team, and Robine and
Valeria Rosado receiving AAC Championship All-Tournament Team selections.
