BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic beach volleyball garnered success on and off the courts this season as the Sandy Owls earned the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced by the AVCA on Monday.
"I'm so proud of this group," expressed Head Coach Steve Grotowski. "Being a student athlete is a challenging endeavor and our girls are excelling in the classroom, on the sand and in our community! They are fantastic representatives of our university and all their hard work is greatly appreciated!"
Florida Atlantic is one of 40 women's beach volleyball programs to earn the honor and one of 1,452 collegiate and high school volleyball teams nationwide. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
The honor marks the third all-time for Florida Atlantic, having also earned the award in 2019 and 2023.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Sandy Owls are coming off one of the most decorated seasons in program history. Florida Atlantic went 21-15 in 2025, marking the fourth 20-win season in program history, and captured its third all-time conference title and second CUSA Championship in program history. Individually, Adams and Svozilova were named AVCA All-Americans, becoming just the fifth and sixth players in program history to earn the prestigious honor, in addition to being named the CUSA Pair of the Year. FAU also had four players earn AVCA Top Flight honors, five earn CUSA All-Conference First Team honors, two garner CUSA All-Freshman Team recognition, and Head Coach Steve Grotowski awarded his second CUSA Coach of the Year honor. Academically, five Sandy Owls earned CSC Academic All-District honors, and Svozilova became the program's first CSC Academic All-American.
