<strong>BOCA RATON, Fla. – </strong>Florida Atlantic baseball defeated USF 6-2 on Sunday afternoon. With three games remaining, the Owls (33-18, 13-11) sit in fourth place in the American Athletic Conference standings, one game behind third-place USF (27-22, 14-10).<br /> <div class="custom-story-header"><span class="small-logo"></span><strong><strong>THE BEGINNING</strong></strong></div> A two-run home run off the bat of John Schroeder opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. USF responded with two runs in the third inning to tie the game.<br /> <div class="custom-story-header"><span class="small-logo"></span><strong><strong>TURNING POINT</strong></strong></div> The Owls sent seven men to the plate in the bottom of the third to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Schroeder was involved again with an RBI single off the right field wall. Brando Leroux drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2. Schroeder would later score with some heads-up baserunning on a shallow pop-up to center field by Jake Millan.<br /> <br /> With a 5-2 lead in tow, the Florida Atlantic pitching and defense handled its business from that point forward. Braden Ostrander, Carter Holjes, and MJ Bollinger combined in relief after four solid innings from freshman James Litman.<br /> <div class="custom-story-header"><span class="small-logo"></span><strong><strong>THE FINISH</strong></strong></div> Marshall Lipsey launched a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth to make the Owls' lead all the more comfortable. Bollinger closed out the top of the ninth to secure the victory.<br /> <div class="custom-story-header"><span class="small-logo"></span><strong><strong>THE BATS</strong></strong></div> <ul> <li>Lipsey reached base three times with two hit-by-pitches in addition to his home run. First pitch at the FAU Baseball Stadium is set for 3 p.m. FAU will then travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for a Thursday through Saturday series against UAB to finish the AAC slate.
