Owls Sweep Pirates

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Florida Atlantic's softball team logged 12 hits and struck out 10 batters to complete the series sweep over East Carolina with an 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls (38-9, 17-4) rocked the Pirates (25-22, 10-11) from the opening at-bat, with the entire lineup reaching base on the way to their league-high fourth American Athletic Conference sweep of the season. Junior third baseman Jesiana Mora led the way with a 3-for-5 day at the plate along with two runs and two RBI.
In her 11th complete game of the season, junior pitcher Autumn Courtney achieved her 20th victory (20-2) behind 10 strikeouts to four hits allowed.
Three straight Owl hits loaded the bases later in the inning, with sophomore Ciara Gibson's ground ball to first base bringing home another runner for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the first, Courtney's first three batters faced saw her deliver swinging strikeouts to retire the side on her own.
The Pirates responded in the bottom with a leadoff triple followed by an RBI double, the last two baserunners allowed by Courtney for 16 straight at-bats. The Owls struck back in the top of the third with sophomore first baseman Bella Cimino's fourth home run of the season and a sacrifice fly from Channell with the bases loaded for a 6-1 lead.
Mora added her third hit of the day with a two-out double in the top of the seventh. A solo home run by the Pirates in the bottom frame was all they could muster before Courtney fanned her 10th batter of the afternoon for the final out.

THE BEGINNING
For the third straight game, redshirt sophomore outfielder Kylie Hammonds opened the contest with a leadoff walk. THE TURNING POINT
FAU continued to put on base runners in the second inning, with a hit and an error culminating with a two-run single from Mora to up the score to 4-0. The Pirates responded in the bottom with a leadoff triple followed by an RBI double, the last two baserunners allowed by Courtney for 16 straight at-bats. The Owls struck back in the top of the third with sophomore first baseman Bella Cimino's fourth home run of the season and a sacrifice fly from Channell with the bases loaded for a 6-1 lead.
THE FINISH
In the fourth, Gibson logged her second RBI of the day in to bring home Yeatts, and then a double from Yeatts scored Mora for the 8-1 advantage in the top of the fifth. Mora added her third hit of the day with a two-out double in the top of the seventh. A solo home run by the Pirates in the bottom frame was all they could muster before Courtney fanned her 10th batter of the afternoon for the final out.
NOTES/NOTABLE
- Florida Atlantic has won 11 straight AAC road games dating back to 2024, the longest active streak in the conference.
- Courtney's 20 victories and 138 strikeouts are the most in a single campaign by an Owl pitcher since 2016. Her 10 strikeouts are her fourth double-digit outing of the season and most in a single game during league play.
- Hammonds has reached base in 16 consecutive appearances and 43 out of 47 games in 2025.
- In addition to achieving her second three-hit outing of the season, Mora stole her 14th base, the most in the conference without being caught.
- Freshman outfielder Bella Foran, the team leader in hits, went 2-for-3 to up her season total to 59.
- Gibson, Mora, and Yeatts each had two RBI. Yeatts now has 43 on the season, third most in the AAC.
