BOCA RATON, Fla – Select Owls from the Florida Atlantic men's and women's swimming teams will participate in the 2025 CSCAA National Invitational Championships held in Ocala, Fla. from Thursday, Mar. 13 to Saturday, Mar. 15.
This will mark the third straight season in which the Owls will take part in the NICs, a three-day meet that give Owl swimmers another postseason opportunity to best their times.
Men
- The men's team finished as runners-up in their second ASUN Championship.
- Daniel Laureyssens became a conference champion in the 500 free (4:20.72).
- Senior Nick Shaffer took home a gold medal in his last conference championships. In the 400 IM, he swam a time of 3:51.55.
- Freshman James Shevchenko found himself at the top of the podium, winning the 200 fly in a time of 1:46.45.
- The 800 free relay swam to a new school record, beating the previous time by six seconds, as well as winning the event. The team of Daniel Laureyssens, Logan Thornsberry, Timo Paisley and Nick Shaffer finished the relay in a time of 6:25.08.
Women
- Competing in the American Athletic Conference championships, the women's team finished in sixth place.
- Megan Drover-Smith in the 200 back grabbed herself a silver medal while setting a new school record with a time of 1:55.88.
- Senior Dolores Margni, in her final conference race as an Owl, swam herself to a silver medal in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.57.
- In the 200 breast A-Final, Nula Gow swam herself to a new best time of 2:15.09.
- The 100 breast saw two athletes swim to new best times with Maja Piotrowicz (1:01.61) and Bilú Bianchi (1:01.70) taking 5th and 6th place in the A-Final.
