Five Match Homestand to End the Month

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 29 Florida Atlantic women's tennis team returns to the courts, after more than three weeks since its last outing, to play five matches in 10 days to close out the month of March. The homestand will begin with a Thursday, Mar. 13 match versus Boston University at 10 a.m. FAU will return to the courts the following day to play host to Charlotte at 2:30 p.m.
Following a day of rest, the Owls will hit the courts on Sunday, Mar. 16 to play host to South Florida at 11 a.m. Both the Charlotte and USF matches are scored as non-conference contests versus fellow American Athletic Conference members. On Thursday, Mar. 20 at 11 a.m. FAU will host East Tennessee State and then the end of the month homestand will end on Mar. 23 versus Delaware. All matches will be played at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center and are free and open to the public.
The Owls carry a 6-0 mark into mid March and hold the highest ranking in program history. While the team remains undefeated, two Owls also enter the end of the month undefeated at 5-0. Senior Lexi Silna has anchored court five with an unblemished record and has yet to be forced into a third set. She and doubles partner Panna Bartha are 3-1 in dual match play and hold a 6-1 record for 2024-25. Newcomer doubles partners Malwina Rowinska and Lara Smejkal are undefeated in dual doubles play at 6-0 while Rowinska is 5-0 on court #4. Senior Millie-Mae Matthews continues to hold down court #6 with a 4-0 mark on the year. She and Victoria Gomez O'Hayon work together on doubles court #2, currently with a 4-1 record.
The five-match homestand will be competitive for the Owls. FAU will work to avenge a 4-3 loss to the Boston University Terriers. This will be the 12th meeting between the two schools with BU coming away with a 4-3 victory back on March 17, 2024 and the series at 6-5.
The Owls won the last meeting versus Charlotte by a 4-1 score. The match was part of 2024 first round action at the American Athletic Conference Championships. The two teams have met six times with FAU winning each.
Sunday, Mar. 16 promises to be an exciting contests. FAU captured the last meeting versus USF by a 4-3 score on Feb. 9, 2024 and hold the all-time series at 8-6. However, the Bulls hold a 4-2 record versus the Owls when playing in Boca Raton. The longest FAU winning streak stands at four matches dating back to 2001-2004.
