THE BEGINNING
Trey Beard retired six of the first seven he faced before running into trouble in the third. After two singles, a three-run homer by UConn's Tyler Minick opened the scoring. Â Â
THE TURNING POINT
Beard walked the bases loaded with one out in the fourth but buckled down and escaped the inning. He stabbed a line drive back to the mound for the second out and then struck out the Huskies' leadoff hitter to get out of the frame. He then went back out for the fifth inning and struck out the side. The sophomore would depart after five with a lead thanks to an RBI single by Jake Duer and a three-run homer by Jake Millan in the bottom of the fifth.Â
THE FINISH
UConn tied the game with a solo homer in the eighth, but the FAU offense responded again. In the bottom of the inning, Marshall Lipsey drew a one-out walk and stole second. Patrick Ward then blooped a single into no-man's land in centerfield, scoring Lipsey and restoring the lead.Â
