No. 25 Owls Take Down Panthers

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 25 Florida Atlantic softball team defeated FIU in their first midweek game of the season, securing a 5-1 victory on Wednesday evening.
In the bottom of the second inning, the 10-2 Owls' offense ignited to load the bases and score four runs. FAU then played the short game, choosing to advance runners on a season-high four sacrifice bunts, to seal the win over the 6-5 Panthers.
The Owls tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth, with Mora coming home off a Panther throwing error.
Junior pitcher Autumn Courtney made her sixth start in the circle and recorded the win to move to 5-1 on the season. After Courtney dished out five strong innings, senior Ainsley Lambert came in for relief for two scoreless frames, keeping her season ERA at 0.00.

THE GAME
Entering the bottom of the second tied at zero, a single from sophomore shortstop Kiley Channell began a streak of seven consecutive advancement of baserunners. With the bases loaded, the top of the Owls' lineup came up to bat. Back-to-back singles from sophomore outfielder Kylie Hammonds and freshman second baseman Destiny Johns drove in the first two runs of the game, immediately followed by a double from junior third baseman Jesiana Mora to bring home two more.The Owls tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth, with Mora coming home off a Panther throwing error.
