NEW ORLEANS – Florida Atlantic volleyball drops a four-setter, 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 25-20) to the Tulane Green Wave on the road Friday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena.
The Owls fall to 17-9 on the season and 8-5 in American play, while Tulane moves to 11-13 overall and 3-10 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tulane took the opening lead, holding a 15-11 advantage through the first set media break. The Owls battled back to within three, cutting the deficit to 18-15 after a kill from
Kierstin Bevelle, but FAU couldn't close out the rally as the Green Wave captured the set on a 7-2 run to take the opening set 25-17.
The Owls opened the second set strong, taking the opening lead at 4-1 Tulane answered back, cutting the Owls' lead to one at 7-6, however,
Kayla Richardson helped spark a 4-0 Owl run with a kill and a block assist, along with a pair of Green Wave attacking errors to extend FAU's lead back to five, 11-6, pushing the Green Wave to call their first timeout of the set. Tulane cut the deficit in half shortly after, forcing the Owls to call a timeout of their own, holding a 13-11 lead. The Green Wave battled, eventually bringing the set even at 19-19. The Owls maintained the lead, holding a 23-22 advantage, but the Green Wave had late set success with a 4-1 run to earn the second set win, 26-24, and a two-set lead.
Tulane held the early advantage in the third, opening the frame on an 8-5 run. However, following an FAU timeout, the Owls locked in to outscore the Green Wave 11-3 and take a five-point advantage at 16-11. The Owls fought and closed out the third set on a 6-5 run, as
Anna Hartman registered the kill to take the third, 25-18.
FAU fell behind quickly to open the fourth with Tulane building an 11-2 lead to open the frame. However, the Owls scored five unanswered points, capped off by a
Zoe Winford kill, to cut the lead to four, 11-7. FAU kept the set within four through a 19-15 Tulane advantage, but couldn't close the gap with the Green Wave taking the fourth 25-20 for the match win.
STATS & NOTES
- Olivia Hart and Bevelle led the way for the Owls. Hart finished with a team-best 14 kills, notching her 11th double-double of the season with 13 digs, as well as tying for a team-high two blocks and adding a pair of aces.
- Bevelle joined Hart in double-figures with 11 kills and added two digs and a block in the match.
- Emsley Venard once again dished out a team-leading 20 assists.
- Isabelle Northam recorded a team-best 18 digs.
- As a team, the Owls held advantages over the Green Wave in kills (52), assists (50), and service aces (8).
