PHILADELPHIA – The Florida Atlantic Owls picked up their first road win of the season, earning a straight-set sweep against Temple on Sunday in Philadelphia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a match-opening 3-0 run for the Owls, Temple went on a 9-2 run of its own to hold a four-point advantage, 9-5, as FAU called its first timeout of the match. Florida Atlantic battled back off a 6-2 run, capped off by a kill from
Libby Ashline and a Temple hitting error, to tie things back up at 11-11. Temple retook a two-point lead at 13-11, but the Owls locked in over the remainder of the set, going on a 14-6 run to close out the first as
Erin Morrissey registered the kill to take the 25-19 opening-set win.
A pair of aces and a kill from Morrissey capped off a 9-3 Owls' run to open the second. Following a Temple timeout, TU outscored Florida Atlantic 12-6 to tie things up at 15-15. The set remained tight through 19-19, but a
Kayla Richardson kill and a block from Richardson and Ashline gave the Owls the two-point advantage, 21-19, sparking Temple to call its final timeout of the set. Florida Atlantic held set point at 24-20, but a late TU run cut the Owls' lead down to just two. However,
Olivia Hart and
Maggie Allred called set, registering a block to close out the third, 25-23, to give FAU the two-set advantage.
Temple had a strong start in the third, opening the set on an 8-4 run to force an early FAU timeout. The Owls scored five unanswered points out of the timeout to take the 9-8 advantage. Temple retook the lead at 10-9, but Florida Atlantic responded with a 7-2 run to take a four-point lead, 16-12, and force TU to call its first timeout of the third. Temple cut the Owls' lead to two at 19-17 as Florida Atlantic called its final timeout of the third. The Owls extended their lead to three at 23-20 following a kill from Allred, but Temple went on a 4-0 run to hold set point, 24-23. The squads battled through three ties, but a Morrissey kill and a block from Richardson and Ashline closed out the match as the Owls captured set three 28-26 to seal the straight-set sweep.
STATS & NOTES
- The win marked the Owls first victory against Temple in Philadelphia.
- Isabelle Northam moved into Florida Atlantic's career top-10 for digs, finishing the weekend with 1,039 career digs.
- Hart recorded her fifth double-double of the season, recording a team-best 15 kills and adding 12 digs.
- Four Owls registered double-figure digs in the win, led by libero Northam with 20. Morrissey, Hart, and Emsley Venard rounded out the group, recording 16, 12, and 10 digs, respectively.
- Venard led the Owls in assists, dishing out 17, while Victoria Hensley finished second on the team with 16 assists in the win.
- Allred and Ashline led the Owls' block, recording five blocks each in the win.
- As a team, the Owls dominated in every statistical category, beating Temple in kills (43-35), hitting percentage (.131-.096), service aces (7-3), blocks (14.5-10), assists (42-32), and digs (71-61).

The Owls continue their road trip next weekend as they head to Charlotte on Friday, Oct. 10 to face off against the Charlotte 49ers. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET inside Halton Arena and on ESPN+.
