BOCA RATON, Fla. – Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Florida Atlantic men's basketball will take the court for an exhibition matchup against Florida Tech on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
Fans will get a preview of a new-look Owls squad led by Head Coach
John Jakus and featuring 10 new players to supplement five returners. Florida Atlantic is seeking its eighth straight winning season that has resulted in four consecutive postseason appearances.
ABOUT THE OWLS
- Jakus enters his second season at the helm of the program. In his debut campaign in 2024-25, he was a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award, given to the nation's top first-year head coach. Under Jakus' watch, the Owls participated in their fourth straight year of postseason play, selected to the 2025 National Invitational Tournament.
- Returning for the Owls are redshirt junior guard Niccolo Moretti, redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool, and redshirt freshman guards Amar Amkou, Liam Dayco-Green, and Max Langenfield.
- Moretti dished out 115 assists during the 2024-25 season and had just 44 turnovers, ranked 28th nationally in assist/turnover ratio.
- The Owls welcome 10 newcomers: four true freshmen, four from the transfer portal, and two international players.
- Josiah Parker was named the American Conference's Preseason Freshman of the Year.
- As a team, Florida Atlantic was ranked sixth in the American's preseason poll.
- In total, the Owls are represented by seven different countries: the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Senegal, and France.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
- Florida Tech is led by incoming Head Coach Will Murphy.
- Consisting of mostly new players, the Panthers' squad features three returners and 12 newcomers.
- Florida Tech's top returning player is junior forward Logan Allen, who made 20 starts and averaged 7.7 points per game in the 2024-25 season.
- Also back for the Panthers is senior guard Xavier Ford-Belton, the team's leader in blocked shots with 24 in the previous campaign.
- The Panthers have faced off against the Owls once before: November 13, 2009 where FAU earned a convincing 86-63 victory at home.
