BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic volleyball kicks off American Athletic Conference play this weekend as they host the East Carolina Pirates and the Charlotte 49ers on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 29.
First serve on Friday against East Carolina is set for 6 p.m. ET, while the Owls will close out the weekend on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Charlotte.
- The Owls enter their AAC-opening weekend at 8-4 overall and are currently riding a three-game winning streak.
- Last weekend, the Owls finished with a perfect 3-0 record, earning wins over Illinois State, 3-2, Mercer, 3-1, and Stetson, 3-1, to capture the Owls Paradise Classic championship.
- Victoria Hensley earned AAC Setter of the Week, Natalie Depaula was named AAC Freshman of the Week, and Madison Dyer earned AAC Weekly Honorable Mention honors following their stellar performances at the Owls Paradise Classic.
- The Owls are led offensively by Valeria Rosado and Katelynn Robine, averaging 3.21 nd 2.89 kills per set, respectively.
- Hensley leads the Owls and the AAC in assists, dishing out 501 this season and averaging 10.44 assists per set.
- The Owls' back row is led by Brianna Anderson, averaging 2.73 digs per set, while Rosado, Olivia Hart, and Isabelle Northam follow just behind, averaging 2.55, 2.50, and 2.32 digs per set, respectively.
- At the net, the Owls are led by Kaila Ru, Dyer, Depaula, and Maggie Allred, tallying 1.39, 0.90, 0.85, and 0.64 blocks per set, respectively.
- The Pirates enter Friday's AAC-opening contest at 7-3 overall and are currently on a three-game skid after opening the season on a seven-game winning streak.
- Offensively, the Pirates are led by Fran McBride, Ellie Pate, and Angeles Alderete, who are averaging 2.65, 2.59, and 2.35 kills per set this season.
- East Carolina runs a two-setter offense with Payton Evenstad and Mackenzie Jefferson leading the way for the Pirates. Evenstad is averaging a team-leading 5.65 assists per set, while Jefferson averages 4.39 assists per set.
- Defensively, the Pirates are paced by Lara Uyar in digs, averaging 3.76 digs per set, while Carlia Northcross leads the team in blocks, averaging 1.0 blocks per set.
- Charlotte enters this weekend's matchup at 3-10 overall and is on a three-game skid, falling against UNC Asheville, ETSU, and North Carolina Central.
- The 49ers are led offensively by Kristen Birmingham and Jessica Ricks, averaging 3.31 and 2.39 kills per set, respectively.
- Birmingham also leads the 49ers in digs, recording 2.31 digs per set.
- Charlotte also runs a two-setter offense with Lauren Nixon and Maddie Stuesser powering the 49ers offense. Nixon leads the way averaging 4.41 assists per set, while Stuesser follows just behind dishing out 4.28 assists per set.
- At the net, the 49ers are paced by Lara Kretschmer and Selanny Puente, tallying 1.04 and 0.96 blocks per set.
- The Owls will close out their AAC-opening three-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 4 against Memphis. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
