BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Panna Bartha anchored court #1 for the Florida Atlantic Owls' women's tennis team, helping the Owls to a national ranking while she built a 14-6 singles record. The Pecs, Hungary native was named the 2024 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and was honored as an All-AAC selection on Wednesday.
Bartha won her first 11 collegiate matches that were played to completion and was up in a 12th at the time the match was clinched. She had big wins over a ranked Camila Soares of Memphis, as well as the top players from Penn and in-state and AAC foe USF. Her efforts were not limited to singles play. The freshman tallied a 12-8 record in doubles action.
Bartha is the program's first women's tennis player to be recognized by the AAC, first as the Player of the Week on February 12th, then as an all-conference selection and finally as the AAC Freshman of the Year. She will join a cast of 50 Owls who have received all-conference honors scattered among the Atlantic Sun, Sun Belt, Conference USA and now the AAC.
Bartha joins the likes of former Owls Kristen Jordan, 2000 and 2001 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year; Alena Dvorakova, 2003 and 2005 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year; Aliona Bolsova, 2018 Conference USA Player and Newcomer of the Year;
Martina Kudelova, 2019 Conference USA Freshman of the Year; Radka Buzkova, 2020 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, to earn specialty recognition by the league.

On Bartha's Recognition
"I am so proud of Panna. She puts in the work day in and day out, always with a smile on her face and with the best attitude a coach could ask for. It is such a pleasure to work with her. She is an amazing player and is coachable, and humble. The sky is the limit for her and I am sure this is only the beginning of an amazing tennis career for Panna."
